SFM is introducing the European benchmark technology that optimises the reliability, punctuality and operational capacity of the railway service The investment exceeds €51 million and deployment has already begun on the metro network before being extended across the entire railway system The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, together with the Regional Minister for Housing, Territory and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, today presented the roadmap for the implementation of ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System), the European automatic train protection technology that is already being deployed across the network of Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) through a total investment exceeding €51 million.

The railway operator will run 16 additional train services between Palma and Inca in both directions on Saturday and Sunday, from midday until night-time Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) will operate special train services next weekend, 14 and 15 February, on the occasion of the traditional Carnival parades taking place in Palma, Lloseta and several other municipalities.

The Government of the Balearic Islands reports on 2025 transport figures: 41.3 million journeys on the TIB bus network, train and metro services; a 5% year-on-year increase and 23% more than two years ago The number of resident users has risen to 31.5 million, accounting for 76% of all passengers — a new historic high — with 23 million more resident journeys than in 2019 The Government of the Balearic Islands closed 2025 with a new all-time record for passengers using Mallorca’s interurban public transport network and with more resident users than ever before travelling by train, metro and TIB bus services.
