SFM awards contract for the comprehensive renewal of signage to improve accessibility and the identification of the railway network

The project will update signage at entrances, platforms and stations in order to strengthen the identity of the railway system and provide passengers with a simpler and more intuitive travel experience

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) has awarded the contract for the comprehensive renewal of the signage and visual identity of Mallorca’s railway network. This initiative aims to improve station accessibility, make passenger journeys easier and establish a consistent visual identity across the entire railway system.

The contract has been awarded to Roura Cevasa, SA for an amount of €584,221.25 (excluding VAT), with a maximum implementation period of nine months. This project forms part of the strategy promoted by the Government of the Balearic Islands to modernise railway infrastructure and improve accessibility, safety, comfort and passenger information within the framework of the Islands in Transformation infrastructure plan.

The project includes the design, manufacture and installation of the new signage for train and metro stations, as well as the adaptation of the corporate image according to common standards across the whole network.

The planned works include replacing and updating station identification signs, improving signage providing access to railway facilities, renewing information available on platforms and shelters, updating the graphic elements in park-and-ride facilities and adapting information supports located in buildings of heritage value. The project also includes the renewal of existing supports where required and the incorporation of new resources to provide clearer, more consistent and easily recognisable guidance.

One of the main innovations of the project is the analysis of access routes from the road network to enhance the visibility of stations from key arrival points. This measure will improve the ability to locate stations before reaching the railway facilities and will strengthen their integration into the urban environment.

The renewal will also extend to both external and internal station signage, covering passenger buildings, platforms and circulation areas. In addition, station recognition from the trains themselves will be enhanced through common criteria across the entire network, facilitating a more organised reading of spaces and the different information elements.

The works include the graphic development of the different signage elements, the manufacture and installation of the new components, the associated technical interventions and the commissioning of the new visual communication model. This will ensure a coordinated and consistent implementation in all train and metro stations, guaranteeing coherence in graphic and information criteria throughout Mallorca’s public railway network.

This project will consolidate a common corporate identity throughout the infrastructure and will represent a further step towards a more uniform information model adapted to the current needs of public transport users.

Through this initiative, the Government of the Balearic Islands continues to advance the modernisation and continuous improvement of public transport, reinforcing the role of the railway as an increasingly competitive, efficient, safe and sustainable mobility option for everyday journeys.
