Mallorca joins the first edition of the Train Week with a program of cultural and educational proposals that will be held between 23 and 28 October in Inca and Son Carrión. Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) and the Mallorca Railway Museum participate in this initiative with an offer aimed at children, families and the general public to publicize the Majorcan railway heritage.
SFM has organized for Saturday 24 October, at the station delenoInca, a contactots and an illustrated workshop, both free of charge. For its part, the Railway Museum will offer guided visits to its facilities on 23 and 24, as well as a family activity dedicated to the transport of goods, scheduled for the 28th.
Train Week is an initiative driven by the Foundation of the Spanish Railways that is celebrated from 21 to 28 dimension with the participation of several entities of the field. This first edition includes exhibitions, visits, conferences and other informative events throughout the country, coinciding with the inauguration of the Barcelona-Mataró line, on October 28, 1848, considered the first peninsular railway.
The choice of Inca as the stage of the day is closely linked to the origins of the train in Mallorca. On February 24, 1875, the first line of the tortilla was inaugurated, connecting Palma with this municipality, a pillar of which they already become more than 150 years.
The day will begin at 10 a.m. with the contactots TABASAIn Sebi and the secret of the XiuThen, aimed at children and dolls from 3 to 6 years old. The story, created by the SFM outreach service, has as protagonist in Sebi, a small train that owes its name to Eusebi Estada, an engineer linked to the beginnings of the Mallorcan railway network. Accompanied by Delen Xiu, a whistle, will cover different episodes of the history of the railway in Mallorca.
At 11 a.m. it will be the turn of the illustrated workshop A postcard, a restrictive journey, intended for children between the ages of 6 and 11. Participants will discover how old rail correspondence was transported and what role mail vans, intended for the transport of letters and packages, had. They will then be able to create and print their own postcards.
Both proposals form part of the educational resources of the SFM outreach service, which develops materials adapted to different ages to familiarize the youngest with the history and operation of rail transport.
The sessions will be held at Inca station on the street of Train. Participation is free and requires prior registration through the QR code of the information poster.
