SFM Offers Free Train and Metro Service for Car-Free Day

The initiative is part of European Mobility Week and aims to promote the use of public transport while encouraging citizens to choose sustainable alternatives to private vehicles.

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) will offer free train and metro travel all day this Tuesday, September 22, to mark Car-Free Day, which brings European Mobility Week to a close. Free travel will apply across the entire rail network in Mallorca.

With this initiative, SFM aims to make it easier for citizens to discover and use the train and metro for their daily commutes, while promoting public transport as a viable alternative to private cars.

The event is part of European Mobility Week, taking place from September 16 to 22, which this year focuses on accessible and inclusive mobility. Throughout the week, various public administrations have promoted activities to raise awareness and encourage more sustainable ways of getting around.

Free train and metro access reinforces the Government’s commitment to boosting public transport as an essential service for the public and as a key tool for moving toward more sustainable, accessible, and efficient mobility.

The goal is to continue fostering a mobility model that simplifies travel for residents, provides real alternatives to private vehicles, and helps reduce car reliance—especially on routine journeys.
