We are restoring regular timetables with increased frequencies and additional daily trains starting this Tuesday, September 1.

Double-track operation and the use of both platforms are also restored in the section affected by the Son Rullan workshop works

Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) will restore its regular timetables from this Tuesday, September 1, with increased frequencies and a higher number of daily trains compared with the service provided during August. Double-track operation will also resume on the section between Son Fuster and the Marratxí industrial estate stations, meaning that both platforms will once again operate normally at all stations along this section.

As every summer, on August 1 SFM adapted its railway timetables to adjust the service offered to demand during this period. Since 2024, the regular service has been maintained throughout July, with the reduction in service applied only during August, when passenger numbers are lower. This differs from previous years, when the reduction was also implemented during the second half of July.

This year, due to the major extension and modernisation works at SFM's workshops in Son Rullan, the railway operator has had to introduce some changes compared with last year's summer timetable.

This was necessary because, at this stage of the works, it was unavoidable for the service operation to be affected, as the works required single-track operation on a section of the network between the Marratxí industrial estate and Son Fuster stations. According to the project schedule, SFM planned to carry out these most critical works during August, precisely in order to minimise disruption to passengers.

The extension and modernisation of the Son Rullan workshops, with an investment of more than €25 million, will enable these facilities to be adapted to the current and future needs of the railway network. The project, included in the Government of the Balearic Islands' «Illes en transformació» plan and financed mainly through funds from the REIB's island-insularity factor, will completely modernise facilities that were originally designed to meet the needs of a very different railway system and adapt them to the sustained growth of rail transport.

Therefore, from this Tuesday, September 1, double-track operation will resume and regular service timetables will be restored. Train stops at the stations in the section affected by the works will also return to normal, with both platforms once again in use.

SFM would like to thank passengers for their understanding and patience during these weeks and apologises for any inconvenience caused by the temporary service changes. These works have been necessary to advance strategic projects aimed at modernising and improving the railway network.
